What is your philosophy towards food and living a healthy, balanced lifestyle?

Personally, I believe the best philosophy is not to take on too many philosophies! Health is not about perfection, it’s about balance. I believe a whole foods diet is best i.e. eating lots of vegetables, good quality protein, nuts, seeds, fruit and some dairy if you can tolerate it and not consuming an overload of gluten, wheat, yeast and sugar. However, every single person is different and so it’s extremely important to listen to what works for your body. We also can’t eat healthily 100% of the time and that’s more than okay!

I created my website because I wanted to create a place where people could view and share information about food and recipes.

After being diagnosed with a non-specific autoimmune condition and fibromyalgia a few years ago, I completely transformed my diet to help improve my symptoms. Supercharged Food is my platform to share easy and simple recipes that are delicious and don’t cost an arm and a leg… and another leg… and a house too! It’s also a great place for me to learn, share and connect with others.

With so many celebrities, influencers and hard-core fad dieters telling exactly what we need to eat, it can be extremely overwhelming and confusing for us to figure out what’s really good for us. So, I created my website to help everyone understand how to create a holistic, balanced approach that you can enjoy and maintain for the rest of your life.

Gut health and why it is so important?

The gut truly is the epicentre to our health. It’s connected to our brains, immune systems, hormones, nervous system and more. Our bodies are made up of around 100 trillion living organisms, with most residing in our gut known as ‘micro flora’. Our microflora is made up of both ‘good’ and ‘bad’ bacteria. While our ‘good’ bacteria help us produce hormones, trains the immune system, regulates the toxins we ingest, helps control our metabolism, absorbs nutrients for us and more, the ‘bad’ microflora can make us more susceptible to a range of diseases such as irritable bowel disease, constipation, inflammation and metabolic conditions like insulin resistance. This is why healing the gut and supporting the growth of our ‘good’ microflora has never been so important!
